What Is Markup?

Markup measures how much a selling price is increased above the underlying cost of a product or service. Businesses commonly use markup when setting prices and evaluating unit economics.

How to Calculate Markup

Markup % = (Selling Price − Cost) ÷ Cost × 100

For example, a $50 cost and $75 selling price produces a $25 markup, or 50% markup on cost.
