What Is Revenue Growth?

Revenue growth measures how much a business's sales revenue has increased or decreased over a period of time. It is commonly used to compare year-over-year, quarter-over-quarter, or other period-to-period performance.

How to Calculate Revenue Growth

Subtract previous revenue from current revenue to find the dollar change. Then divide that change by previous revenue and multiply by 100 to calculate the percentage growth rate.

Formula

Growth % = ((Current Revenue − Previous Revenue) ÷ Previous Revenue) × 100

Revenue Growth Example

If a business generated $100,000 in one period and $125,000 in the next, revenue increased by $25,000. The revenue growth rate is 25%.
